Below is a list of jurisdictions served by the Municipal Courts and Common Pleas courts in Portage County and Summit County, Ohio. Under Ohio law, final jurisdiction over felony cases rests with the Court of Common Pleas. Most misdemeanor charges are handled by the Municipal Courts, although most felony charges also originate in the Municipal Court system.
AKRON MUNICIPAL COURT
The jurisdiction of the Akron Municipal Court encompasses the Summit County communities of Akron, Fairlawn, Bath Township, Richfield Township, Springfield Township, Lakemore Village, and Richfield Village, and in that part of Mogadore in Summit County.
BARBERTON MUNICIPAL COURT
The jurisdiction of the Barberton Municipal Court encompasses the cities of Barberton, Green, Norton, and New Franklin, the Village of Clinton, and the Township of Coventry. In addition, The Barberton Municipal Court also has jurisdiction over all of Copley Township, except within the City of Fairlawn.
KENT MUNICIPAL COURT
The jurisdiction of Kent Municipal Court is county-wide throughout Portage County, but usually handles criminal charges originating in the following Portage County communities: City of Aurora, City of Kent, Kent State University, City of Tallmadge, Village of Brady Lake, Brimfield Township, and the Village of Mogadore.
RAVENNA MUNICIPAL COURT
The jurisdiction of Ravenna Municipal Court is county-wide throughout Portage County, but usually handles criminal charges originating in the following Portage County communities: City of Ravenna, City of Streetsboro, Garrettsville Village, Hiram Village, Hiram College, Mantua Village, Windham Village, Ravenna Township and Windham Township.
STOW MUNICIPAL COURT
The jurisdiction of the Stow Municipal Court encompasses the northeast Summit County communities of Boston Heights, Boston Township, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Macedonia, Munroe Falls, Northfield, Northfield Center Township, Northfield Village, Peninsula, Reminderville, Sagamore Hills, Silver Lake Village, Stow, Tallmadge, Twinsburg and Twinsburg Township.
SUMMIT COUNTY COMMON PLEAS COURT
The jurisdiction of the Summit County Common Pleas Court encompasses all of Summit County, including felony cases bound over from Akron Municipal Court, Barberton Municipal Court and Stow Municipal Court.
PORTAGE COUNTY COMMON PLEAS COURT
The jurisdiction of the Portage County Common Pleas Court encompasses all of Portage County, including felony cases bound over from Kent Municipal Court and Ravenna Municipal Court.
PORTAGE COUNTY JUVENILE COURT
The Portage County Juvenile Court is a division of the Portage County Common Pleas Court. The jurisdiction of the Portage County Juvenile Court encompasses all of Portage County.
SUMMIT COUNTY JUVENILE COURT
The Summit County Juvenile Court is a division of the Summit County Common Pleas Court. The jurisdiction of the Summit County Juvenile Court encompasses all of Summit County.

- Our Portage County office is located in downtown Ravenna, half a block East of the Portage County Courthouse.
